Hoarder and Extreme Cleaning
Recently around 90% of
our work has been COVID related but as well as this we have been carrying out our
usual extreme cleaning, trauma, and biohazard cleaning jobs too.
Over the years we have
seen our fair share of tough situations but some stick longer in my mind.
Just the other day we
got a call from a landlord who had been left with no option but to evict their
tenants in part due to their hoarding issues.
When we got there to do
the job we were greeted by not only mountains of rubbish and items that had
been accumulated over time but also of rotten food and even the occasional
rodent.
Unfortunately, this is
a sight I have grown accustomed to having gone through many of these extremeenvironmental cleans.
What I did not expect
to see was people putting themselves and others at risk by rummaging through
the contaminated waste that we had put outside the property.
Apart from the obvious risks,
these people had no idea what had gone on in the house and whether there were
sharps or other items that could injure them.
It was a little heart-breaking
if I am honest that even in this day in age people are still in this state of
despair and a little ignorance to the plight of others.
It reminded me that no
matter what we are going through we always should be thankful for what we are
fortunate enough to have in our lives.

After Lockdown
Back to work after coronavirus lockdown
Steps that will usually be needed:
- Ensuring there is adequate provisions for handwashing / sanitising
- Reviewing layouts, line set-ups or processes to allow people to be further apart from each other.
- Using floor tape or paint to mark areas to help staff and customers comply with social distancing guidelines (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable).
- Using screens to create a physical barrier between people.
